Adolescent 360-amplify
Situation
Being victims of teenage pregnancies, the aspirations of adolescent girls in rural areas of Kenya are cut short. This exposes them to multiple vulnerabilities due to their poor economic background, lack of education and poor access to health services.
Assignment
Support adolescents to have more decision-making power in the decisions affecting them. Integrate components of sexual health and economic empowerment to enable them to pursue their aspirations and take their control back.
Approach
Using the HCD approach, I worked with the Population Services Kenya team as a designer to create the Kenyan adolescent girls’ archetypes and interpret the feelings of the rural adolescents whilst capturing their insights in the design process.
Results
Refined the A360 project, called it “Binti shupavu” to suit the Kenyan context. The project aims at increasing the uptake of modern contraception methods among adolescents and building skills for economic empowerment currently supporting the adaptive implementation of the project.
